Test on Friday, Oct. 14

Sorry class, the test is tomorrow. You are more prepared than you think. Titration will not be on the test. From unit 1, focus on empirical formula, % composition limiting reactants, and % yield. From Unit 2, focus on how electrolytes dissociate in water, identifying if a substance is soluble or insoluble from solubility tables, neutralization reactions, precipitate reactions, redox reactions (and for all three types writing the molecular reaction and the net ionic reaction.) and molarity. ON the test you will have a question similar to your lab report calculations, a question like #28 on the homework packet, and you will have to explain how to create a solution of certain molarity from mass and dilution, just like we did in class the other day. When reviewing HW packet #1, focus on ?s # 3,5,9,10,11,12,14,16 and 17. From packet #2, focus on ?s #1,2,5,7-11, 14-16,19 and 28.

Before Class Sept. 7: Stoich and Limiting Reactants

Before class on Sept. 7,

Intro to Limiting Reactants:

Limiting Reactant Problem (You can start watching this video around minute 1):

Before Class Sept. 2: Empirical and Molecular Formula

Before class on Sept. 2,

  • Watch the video below (13 min) on empirical and molecular formulas;
  • Take notes using the note sheet (if you don’t have it from class, click here:  NOTES Lesson 2 Empirical Formula)
  • When done, write a comment on the video summarizing something you learned, or asking a question.  If you are doing this on a phone, click on the post, and at the bottom write your comment where it says “leave a reply”

AP Lesson 1: August 31

During this class we will explore percent composition (also called mass percent), as well as substances and mixtures.  TO DO BEFORE CLASS

  • Complete the Student Inventory Worksheet and bring to class.
  • Watch the three videos below. (The videos are 10 minutes, 3 minutes, and 2 minutes, respectively).
  • Complete the notes that I handed out in class AS YOU WATCH.
  • After you finish watching, leave a comment in the block below.  You should either write a summary of what you learned, or a question that you still have.  OR, you can answer one of your fellow students questions.  To do that, you will hit reply to their post, instead of leaving one of your own.

I will have to approve the comments before they show up on the screen. So, you won’t see them show up right away.  Each comment/question is worth one point.  At the end of the unit, I will add them up and they will count as a quiz grade.
