  1. In this video I learned about the difference between amorphous solids (such as glass) which have no definite shape and crystalline solids with a regular arrangement. I learned about the forces between molecular solids(IMF’s), network covalent solids (strong covalent bonds), ionic solids (electrostatic attraction) and metallic solids(metallic bonds). I learned about some of the properties of each. I learned that ionic solids are insulators as solids, but conductors in a molten or an aqueous state. I learned that when stress is applied to ionic solids, the anions and cations shift such that they are repelling each other, and this is why ionic solids are so brittle.

  2. In this video I learned the different types of crystalline solids:molecular, atom, and ionic solids. Molecular solids have weak IMFs and tend to be softer and have lower melting points. Covalent network, a type of atomic solid, tend to be hard and have high melting point. Ionic solids bond depends on the charge and size of the substance.

  3. In this video I learned about the two different types of solids, Amorphous and Crystalline. I also learned about the different types of crystalline solids, molecular solids, atomic solids, and ionic solids. Lattice energy is the energy released when one mole of a solid ion compound turns into its gaseous ions. I also reviewed Coulomb’s law and finding the lattice energy of ionic compounds.

  4. I learned about the different types of solids, more specifically, about molecular solids and ionic solids this this video. Both molecular and ionic solids are crystalline solids which have highly regular arrangement of components. The video also reviewed lattice energy, which is the energy released when 2 gaseous ions combine into a solid ion.
