It’s probably so you don’t accidentally drop it into anything you’re not supposed to, or because chemicals can get onto it. The same reason why food isn’t allowed in the lab.
I was pretty sure there was no horseplay allowed in a lab environment. but I guess I had never seen anyone actually use the sprayers to clean out their eyes, so that is good to know.
I personally never knew where the chemical waste was placed after a lab , I knew it wasn’t allowed down the sink but as a underclassmen we didn’t necessarily work with actual chemicals, but now I’ve learned to place the waste in the designated receptacle.
I learned that 1. Chemical reactions can be the initial start of accidents in the lab, 2. You had to be especially cautious of your nose while inhaling chemicals, 3. To always wear close toed shoes.
I learned that 1)You always have to wear gloves and goggles 2) You always have to waff not sniff the chemicals 3) You always have to clean your work area.
I learned that you can’t have open toed shoes in the lab and to waft so you don’t burn your nose also to wear googles to protect your eyes from going blind
would the sink actually start to glow if you pour chemicals down it? i understand now that you shouldn’t but i still would like to know, that would be cool to see!
At first i didn’t know why you do not smell chemicals directly but now i do

I don’t understand why you have to spit out your gum while doing a lab.

It would only glow if the chemicals you poured down were phosphorescent in some way. You could cause an explosion in the sink, however.
